How The Camel Got His Hump Summary & Solution - CBSE Class 8 English It So Happened Chapter 1

"How the Camel Got His Hump" by Rudyard Kipling, there's a time when animals and humans lived together, and the animals worked for the Man. Among these animals was a lazy Camel who never wanted to work. Whenever the Man asked the Camel to do something, the Camel would stubbornly say, "Humph!" and refuse.

This laziness bothered the Man and the other animals, as they were working hard while the Camel did nothing. They complained to a magical being called the Djinn about the Camel's laziness.

The Djinn approached the Camel and asked why he didn't want to work. The Camel replied that he didn't see the point in working for three consecutive days, like the other animals did. He believed that there was no rush because the world was never going to end, so there would always be time to work later.

The Djinn didn't like the Camel's attitude. As a consequence for the Camel's laziness and refusal to work, the Djinn gave the Camel a huge, lumpy hump. He told the Camel that the hump would allow him to work for three days straight without needing food or water.

From that day on, the Camel had a hump on his back, and he learned the lesson that being lazy and avoiding work had consequences. The hump became a symbol of the Camel's laziness and reminder of the importance of fulfilling responsibilities and working diligently.
